NPCIL Interview Experience(Mechanical)  23/05/19

Duration: 35 min
First they asked how was your lunch, where you did your btech, where do you belong etc.
1. Favourite subjects: SOM FM THERMO HT

2. what are different theories of failure?

3. Overhanging beam on both side with UDL. Draw SFD and BMD

4. Bending stress distribution if it is rectangular x-s/c

5. steel and aluminum plates attached with each other at same temp. find stresses and elongation if temp is increased

6. temp profile in arrangement of previous problem if both side air is present

7. what happens to temp profile and heat flux if we replace air with water at on side

8.where will you place pump and which arrangement of discharge will you choose(they gave fig of arrangements)

9. Explain rankine cycle. why carnot cycle is not practical in power plant.

10.how much is the efficiency of thermal power plant? where does majority of loss occur?

11. what will be effect of removing condesor on efficiency?

Result: Cleared cutoff. Medical Examination done.

NPCIL Mechanical  Interview  20/05/19 Delhi

There were 3 panels and every panel had different procedure of interview(like some didn't care about favourite subjects)

In my panel 6M + 1F

They asked favourite subjects(som, thermo, Hmt, FM) but asked from anywhere and about subject from BTech marksheet. But asked very basics.

M1- koi plant visit kiya h kabhi
Me- no(although I had during BTech but didn't no anything even name of plant)
Again 2-3 members they insisted kahi to gaye honge, IIT wale to le jate h 3rd yr ke baad
Me - clearly no
M1- 1) stress strain curve for steel + for creep + true stress strain and asked different regions.
2) Types of defects, which defect is advantageous and how
3)work hardening, cold working

M2 - 1) ball bearing - type of load, components, types of thrust bearings,
2)cycle - no. Of bearings and its types, rachet mechanism.

M3 - thermo cycles explain process, uses and efficiency

M4 - Instrumentation (from semester marksheet) - different types of measuring devices, thermocouple and its working,
M4- Mechanics - fbd of eraser on desk, how will you show direction of its motion in fbd diagram.

F - cavitation, how to avoid it, how would you know if cavitation occur in pump

M5 - motor and generator, at what height cavitation occur in pump ideally at home.
Some questions I didn't remembered

I was able to answer almost every question but as they are extending question so at some point if I didn't know the ans I said I don't know
At last (a clear signal) they asked me about job profile and do I have any problem if they post me any of there location.
